WESTERN BHUTAN TOUR

Day one, Paro-Thimphu

Arrival at Paro international airport and you will be received by representative of MerryGoBhutan Tours and Travels and then drive to Thimphu. Afternoon sightseeing around Thimphu valley includes, Textile Museum, Folk Heritage museum and Tashi chhodzong.


Day Two, Thimphu-Phobjikha

Early breakfast and drive to Phobjikha valley. Enroute stop at Dochula pass (3050m). On clear day one can see the whole range of Himalayas Mountains including the Gangkar Puensum highest peak in Bhutan. Hot tea/coffee at Dochula cafeteria. On the way stop for lunch at Wangdi. Then continue drive to Phojikha valley. Overnight in Hotel.


Day Three, Begin trek from Phobjikha to Gogona

Approx 15 km – about 6 hours -7 hours The trek starts a gradual ascent through pine, juniper forests, dwarf bamboos and rhododendrons. The path becomes steeper as it gets closer to the top, finally crossing Tselela pass (Alt. 3410 m ) after about 3 hours trek. From the pass, the trail descends gradually into a wide valley. On the way visit Gogona temple. If time favors visit the Gogona Cheese and dairy Unit. Overnight in tents at an altitude of 3100m.


Day Four, Gogona to Khotokha Chorten Karpo

Approx. 16 km – about 6-7 hour After breakfast, begin gradually ascending for about 2 ½ hrs to Shobjula pass ( 3390m), though forests of fir, oak spruce, cypress, juniper, dwarf rhododendron and daphne bushes. After the pass, it is a long descent for about 3 hours through well forested area. Then it is gradual and level walking for the most of the part. Occasionally you will see Saw-mills, coal makers, cross tractor roads and finally you arrive at Khotokha village in the wide valley. The campsite is in a meadow at an altitude of 2670m. You will certainly feel warmer here than the previous night. Overnight in Camp.


Day Five, Chorten Karpo to Tikke Zampa

Distance -approximately 13km – about 5 hours. A short ascent will bring you to the Tashila pass (2780m). At Tashila, you can watch the ropeway bringing up supplies to the village and taking logs and coal down below. And long descent walk is through beautiful, ever changing vegetation also rich in birdlife. You will also pass many small villages or houses. However this part of the trek can be hard on your knees because it is downhill and you could feel very hot as altitude drops. From the trek end point, you are met by MerryGoBhutan Tours and travels transport and transferred to the hotel near Punakha.


Day six, Punakha-Paro.

After breakfast drive to visit Punakha Dzong which was built by Zhabdrung Rinpoche in 1637 and it’s one of the most impressive Dzong in the country. After the visit then drive to Paro. En route stop for lunch at Thimphu. Continue drive to Paro and on the way visit Paro Rinpung Dzong built by Zhabdrung Rinpoche in 1646 and now houses the district administrative offices and monk body. Check-in the hotel.


Day Seven, Paro-Halt

After breakfast, drive to the base camp Ramthangka and then hike up to the Taktsang Monestery (Tiger’s nest). The climb up to the monastery will take approx. 3hours. Hike uphill to Tiger Nest, in the midway stop at Taktsang Cafeteria for hot Tea/Coffee. Continue walk uphill till monastery. Visit the Monastery and walk back via same way. Stop for lunch at Taktsang Cafeteria and continue descent to the Base Camp. Overnight in hotel.


Day Eight, Paro – Departure

In the morning, your tour guide from MerryGoBhutan Tour and Travels will escort you to the airport for your onward destinations.
